ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are currently looking for a Consultant to join our Public Affairs team in our Washington D.C. office. The Consultant will primarily support team members in the execution of consulting programs and, by doing so, will learn the necessary subjects and processes to service and advise clients. The individual will conduct research for ongoing consulting projects and will work with account teams to execute projects and meet client goals and objectives. A Consultant must keep up-to-date on key issues and current events for their clients, as well as generally in the relevant industries.
PRIMARY DUTIES
In this role, the Consultant will develop knowledge of clients' objectives and challenges to help the client team design communication strategies and execute program tactics. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:
• Play a role in the research, planning, and development of comprehensive communication programs
• Write and edit a variety of client materials (e.g., strategic memos, press releases, presentations, emails, media reports, media pitches, social media posts and content, etc.) under the direction of senior team members
• Prepare daily media monitoring reports
• Assist with ongoing program measurement and progress report development
• Research appropriate target media for clients, and develop and maintain media lists
• Develop and evaluate appropriate editorial calendar opportunities
• Address client issues thoughtfully and effectively
• Evaluate campaign results against objectives
• Assist in successfully growing existing accounts
• Contribute to the professional development and performance review process for interns, as needed
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Client Delivery
• Execute communication program activities for a variety of clients simultaneously
• Demonstrate an understanding of client information, including business strategy, services, stakeholders and competitive landscape
• Deliver high-quality work focused on client needs
• Create client-ready deliverables in a timely and efficient manner
• Identify resource needs and work with managers to assign individual responsibilities
• Support billing procedures to ensure timely and accurate delivery of client invoices
Business Development
• Maintain solid relationships with clients
• Work with managers to help clients assess their program needs
• Participate in the generation new business proposals and presentations
Practice Leadership
• Consistently seek ways to improve client service
• Support the development, production and marketing of thought leadership surrounding emerging trends and issues
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 1 year of communications agency and/or state/federal government experience. Capitol Hill experience desirable.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Must have a solid grasp of public relations, including traditional media relations experience, as well as digital and social media program management experience
• Must possess superior research, public policy, writing and editing skills
• Demonstrated development of a professional network and experience with media contacts, database tools and pitching media to secure client coverage is required
• Experience with popular blogging tools, publishing software and other social media platforms (i.e., Twitter) required
• Proven project management skills and the ability to proactively support/counsel key client relationship
• Strong time and priority management skills and an ability to effectively juggle multiple client projects
• Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, deadline-oriented dynamic environment with regular change
• Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and Word
• Understanding of Associated Press Style Guidelines
