About the Role

We work with our clients to build, promote and defend their corporate reputation, leveraging our integrated suite of services, including financial communications and corporate reputation.

We are looking for a corporate communications and media relations specialist with 7-10 years’ experience. The candidate should have deep experience in strategic communications and financial communications, with knowledge of ASX or publicly listed companies, and exposure to capital markets activities. You will also have a sound knowledge of the Australian media landscape and strong working relationships with influential commentators and sector journalists. You will understand media processes and editorial objectives. This will include an understanding of the links between traditional media and social media.

In this role, you will be a senior member of a team of experts who advise a broad range of clients on using communication to help achieve corporate outcomes, build and protect reputations, and deal with business challenges domestically and internationally. We help our clients create sustainable relationships with media, policy makers, interest groups, and external stakeholders.

You will be responsible for day-to-day management of client work, as well as providing clients with strategic communication advice. As a senior member of the team, you will play a key proactive role in client management, acting as a key client contact. You’ll contribute to the development of your colleagues, acting as a mentor and providing guidance to junior team members.

You will also be responsible for proactively pursuing and driving new business initiatives by expanding existing relationships as well as identifying new opportunities and converting these into sustainable clients.

What You'll Do

  • Provide strategic advice to a portfolio of clients, manage accounts on a day-to-day basis and develop excellent relationships with client groups
  • Manage the research, planning, development and execution of comprehensive communication programs 
  • Develop and oversee production of high-quality, client-ready deliverables and services in a timely and efficient manner including press releases, media pitches, financial calendar communications, strategic counsel on capital markets activity, and financial media relations
  • Anticipate potentially difficult situations and evaluate strategies and alternatives with senior management
  • Manage the team working on your clients, sharing knowledge with and mentoring junior team members
  • Proactively network with contacts, media and other stakeholders including potential clients
  • Seek out new business leads and work alongside other members of the team on business development activities such as pitch preparation and delivery

How You'll Grow

Qualifications & Experience

  • Strong academic background – ideally in journalism, strategic communications, law, public policy, or economics
  • 7-10 years’ experience in a consultancy, in-house team, trade body, public institution or advising clients on communications issues
  • Strong media relations experience, working with top-tier business, finance and trade media 
  • Proven skills in corporate communications, media relations, advocacy, crisis and reputation management
  • Excellent understanding and experience of working with policymakers and stakeholders to develop strategic objectives, and strong knowledge of the Australian media, economic, political and regulatory environment
  • Strong time and priority management skills and an ability to juggle multiple client accounts
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, deadline-oriented dynamic environment with regular change
  • This role may require travel to client and FTI offices
