Position Summary

 

We are seeking to hire an experienced public affairs practitioner to join an ambitious and growth-minded team in Tokyo, Japan. The successful candidate will work closely with local and international clients to help steer and grow the company’s public affairs practice in Japan.

 

You should have a proven ability to service client companies on a day-to-day basis as well as a track record of successfully contributing to new business development. You should also have a strong interest in developing a strategic approach to communications, excellent written and verbal communications skills in both Japanese and English and an ability to help manage junior team members as a collegiate team player. You should be mature, results-oriented, and prepared to learn and utilise new approaches to communications as part of a leading global communications consultancy business. 

 

A Day in the Life of a Director, or a Senior Director:

 

·        Conduct day-to-day management of public affairs and strategic communications client accounts

·        Work with a highly motivated team to strengthen the firm’s communications offerings in Japan and Asia regionally

·        Provide input towards the development of the firm’s strategic direction in the Japanese market.

·        Grow and strengthen connectivity with other regional and global offices

·        Develop and execute plans for business development with large Japanese companies and multinational corporations

·        Lead the creation of high-quality client deliverables, business development proposals and marketing collateral

·        Provide input for the practice’s marketing and promotional activities in Japan, and Asia

·        Manage and mentor junior team members

·        If you have more experience and confident in doing business development, you will be considered as Senior Director

 

What We Are Looking For

 

·        Fluency in Japanese and English

·        Educated to degree level or equivalent

·        Track record of providing public affairs consultancy for local and international clients

·        Understanding on the political and cultural dynamics in Japan

·        Experience working within or with public sectors in Japan is an absolutely advantage

·        Network within political/governmental communities in Japan

·        New business development skills is a plus but not a must (strategy and proposal development, etc.)

·        Ability to leverage existing relationships to win new business with both local and international clients

·        Excellent presentation, project management and written and verbal communications skills

·        Ability to work independently and manage one’s own time and priorities

·        A collegiate approach to working in a diverse team across Japan and other Strat comms team across Asian region and globally
