Payroll Manager, Brisbane
Job Responsibilities
The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll function for FTI Consulting’s Australian operations. This role ensures the timely, accurate, and compliant processing of payroll in accordance with Australian legislative requirements, including the Fair Work Act, Superannuation Guarantee, and relevant taxation laws.
Reporting to the Transaction Services Manager and working closely with both internal stakeholders and external service providers, the Payroll Manager plays a key role in payroll strategy, governance, process improvement, and systems optimisation.
As a key member of the Australian Finance Team, the Payroll Manager will have the following key responsibilities:
- Oversee the full payroll cycle across all Australian entities, including monthly and ad hoc payrolls
- Collaborate closely with the outsourced payroll provider to ensure accurate and timely processing
- Ensure all employees are set up correctly and promptly in the payroll system, in accordance with onboarding documentation
- Manage payroll calculations and reconciliations, including salaries, wages, bonuses, allowances, terminations, redundancies, and leave entitlements
- Perform monthly leave reconciliations and ensure accurate leave accruals and balances
- Manage senior management share plan dividend payments and coordinate preparation of annual statements
- Verify casual hours in consultation with relevant segment managers
- Interpret and apply relevant employment legislation, including payroll tax, superannuation and PAYG withholding
- Process and submit all required statutory payments and reports: PAYG, payroll tax, superannuation contributions, Single Touch Payroll (STP), and annual reconciliation statements
- Maintain payroll compliance and internal controls, including data security and confidentiality
- Act as a primary contact for employee payroll-related inquiries, resolving issues promptly and professionally
- Drive continuous improvement of payroll processes, systems, and policies
- Lead or support payroll system upgrades or implementation projects
- Partner with HR and Finance teams to ensure alignment of payroll with employee data, general ledger coding, and reporting
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of annual reporting obligations including:
- Payroll Tax Reconciliations
- Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) reporting
- Workers’ Compensation renewals and remuneration estimates
- Payroll Tax Reconciliations
Key Requirements:
· Minimum of 8 years’ end-to-end payroll experience within medium to large corporate environments in Australia
· Proven experience managing outsourced payroll providers and vendor relationships
· Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience working in a professional services or consulting firm environment
- Familiarity with salary packaging, fringe benefits, or salary sacrifice arrangements
- Understanding of remuneration reporting obligations and year-end payroll processes
· Excellent attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and timeliness
· Strong organisational and time management skills; able to meet multiple deadlines
· Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain payroll related matters simply and clearly
· High level of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive payroll and employee information
· Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a continuous improvement mindset
· Capable of working independently with minimal supervision while contributing to a collaborative team environment
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
· Experience with Workday will be highly regarded
