Senior Director, HR Transaction Services - Post Deal & Performance Improvement

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
The HR Transformation Services (HRTS) group is a rapidly growing practice within FTI’s Transactions & Restructuring practice. Our team is led by experienced Senior HR leadership, and is comprised of HR consultants, actuaries, and former HR executives with M&A experience across the deal life cycle – from pre-signing to exit. We combine deep technical expertise in the HR, compensation and benefits space to help our clients make informed decisions, focusing on organizational and HR issues that materially impact enterprise valuation and mitigate risk.
Our client engagements primarily fall into the following four (4) categories:
- HR Due Diligence (pre-sign): focused on the financial aspects of the HR function, compensation and benefits
- Merger Integrations (post-sign): focused on identifying synergies within the HR functions, compensation and benefits programs and execution planning
- Carve-Outs (post-sign): focused on standing up a new HR function, including payroll / HRIS, compensation and benefits programs
- Performance Improvement (non-M&A): perform current state assessment and identify areas for investment and cost reductions across the HR function, compensation and benefits programs
PRIMARY DUTIES:
We are currently seeking a Senior Director for our HRTS group within our Transactions & Restructuring practice. For this specific role, we are seeking a candidate that will primarily focus on Merger Integrations, Carve-Outs and Performance Improvement engagements. However, the individual will also have the opportunity to work on HR due diligence engagements, particularly where it is expected there may be a follow on (e.g., integration and / or carve-out) opportunity.
Responsibilities:
• Work with FTI’s Carve-out and Merger Integration teams, as well as other outside advisors (e.g., legal, brokers) on carve-out and integration engagements, focusing on the establishment and merging of HR, compensation and benefits platforms, providing PMO oversight across the various key HR workstreams, including Day 1 readiness, SPA & TSAs, employee transition & offer letters, HR target operating model, retention, severance/RIFs, payroll / HRIS, compensation and benefit plans, and employee communications.
• Work alongside FTI’s Performance Improvement teams on performance improvement projects. Conduct current state assessments on the HR department, compensation and benefits programs of companies to identify cost reduction opportunities, efficiencies and inefficiencies.
• Lead and manage the engagement process from start to finish, including setting scopes, budgets, staffing resources, creation and coordination of client-ready deliverables with FTI's engagement teams, and direct communication of results with clients
• Oversee and drive development of staff, including being mentor and coach to junior team members
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in HR due diligence, carve-outs, HR integrations, and / or HR performance improvement engagements, including implementation of compensation and benefit plans preferred.
• Minimum of eight years of HR consulting, internal HR corporate, or actuarial experience with proficient knowledge of pensions, post-retirement medical, health & welfare plans and / or compensation plans with a top accounting, HR benefits consulting firm, or corporation.
• PHR, SPHR or SHRM certified preferred but not required.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university/college
• Ability to travel up to 40% of the time.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
• Highly motivated, self-starter, team player, with positive attitude and strong relationship-building skills.
• Experience with organizational design, employee benefits, retirement plans, compensation programs, spans and layers, workforce analytics, and HR department infrastructure.
• The gravitas, professional bearing and interpersonal skills required to successfully develop a high-level rapport with senior industry professionals.
• High intellectual curiosity with strong leadership, financial, analytical, communication and organizational skills pertaining to managing HR consulting workstreams from beginning to end.
• A strong aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis and the ability to link business strategy to performance and due diligence findings.
• Advanced analytical and issue resolution intelligence. Problem solving is essential.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, as report writing is required.
• Ability to interface with team members and client personnel in demanding, deadline-driven situations.
• Ability to work independently in fast-paced, multi-tasked environment.
• Ability and willingness to learn and adapt in an ever-changing environment to meet client needs.
• Proficient with PC environments and related software, including Microsoft Office applications. Especially advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint preferred.
