Within the Economic and Financial Consulting practice, our Regulated Industries team is a leading adviser to regulated businesses, economic regulators, law firms and investors in the US, UK, Europe and internationally. We have been involved in a wide range of engagements drawing on our economics, finance, econometrics and accounting expertise. We provide critical insight and expert reports in the context of periodic regulatory reviews, strategic decision-making, public policy debates, M&A transactions and competition cases. Some of the types of issues our Regulated Industries team provide advice on include:
• Cost of capital and financeability
• Regulatory accounting, cost of service and reporting
• Efficiency analysis
• Design of price controls and regulatory framework;
• Regulatory and commercial strategy
• Design of incentive mechanisms
• Access pricing, charging arrangements and tariff design
• Economic impact assessments
• Financial modelling
• Regulatory and mergers and acquisitions due diligence
• Regulatory disputes
• Competition assessments and compliance
• Anti-trust approvals and appeals.
The sectors we work in include energy, health, post, telecoms, transport and water.
Senior Directors have a central role on projects, taking day-to-day responsibility for delivery, organization of the work into streams, and the effective use of Consultants and Senior Consultants. Typically, Sr. Directors will develop with more senior project team members the approach to projects, or parts of large projects, and are responsible for anticipating, identifying and resolving issues and keeping more senior project team members informed of progress.
Sr. Directors are responsible for the preparation of formal reports, including their structure and content. Sr. Directors will develop business and manage a network of professional relationships with clients and others.
Suitable candidates will be problem-solvers who enjoy developing and applying bespoke approaches to solve complex, unstructured problems in a logical manner. Candidates will have strong analytical skills; be able to explain their work and communicate their conclusions and findings clearly, both orally and in writing; and be able to draw upon considerable experience of applying principles to solve problems in practice. The ideal candidate will have an eye for both the big picture and for detail.
• Solid practical experience specialising in regulation in the electric and/or gas utility sector.
• Accomplished at obtaining, manipulating and analysing information;
• Effective in communicating orally and in writing, including experience writing formal reports;
• Strong project management skills and experience in managing people and individual work streams;
• Ability to efficiently organise and conduct research
• Ability to supervise other people.
• Solid practical experience specializing in regulation in the electric and/or gas utility sector.
• Solid understanding of the principles of regulatory economics and/or regulatory finance.
• Ability to develop and apply robust methods to address complex economic and/or financial issues.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines whilst having to rely on inputs provided by others.
• Ability to communicate effectively and authoritatively verbally and in writing. The candidate should have experience of writing and structuring reports, and acting as a regular day-to-day contact for clients.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in economics, finance, or another relevant discipline from a college or university
• A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in electric and/or gas utility regulation at a state or federal regulatory body, or an electric or gas utility or at another consultancy to demonstrate the ability to be an effective EFC Sr. Director on the Regulated Industries team.
• Electric or gas utility regulation experience required
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of other relevant analytical software is also desirable
• Familiarity with sources and tools such as: Companies House; Bloomberg; the Markets/Capital IQ; Thomson Reuters.
