Day in the Life as a Senior Director…

As a Senior Director, you will take an active role in the development and management of communications programs related to in- and out-of-court financial restructurings, as well as related events such as refinancing announcements, forbearance agreements, asset sales, organizational realignments and leak mitigation plans. You will be assigned to working with clients working with clients within energy, industrial good and services, engineering and manufacturing. You also will have opportunities to work on other multi-stakeholder corporate announcements, including mergers and acquisitions, crises and other issues management campaigns within these industries.

 

You will develop in-depth knowledge of clients' objectives, audiences, channels and challenges in order to support the design and implementation of strategies to support them and position them positively for the future. You will be responsible for managing the client relationship, coordinating strategies and document review among the broader advisory team and working with a cross-disciplinary FTI Strategic Communications teams to ensure flawless execution of strategies across all stakeholder groups, including employees, customers, suppliers, financial audiences, media and regulators, as needed. You also will be responsible for training and providing support to more junior team members and helping to cultivate new business opportunities and referral relationships. To support our client base in the energy industry, this role requires a technical background with a focus on energy, industrial services and chemical engineering. Your academic background and expertise will mean you are a key interface with engineers and subject matter experts on the clients’ side who also specialize in engineering, oil and gas and industrial.

 

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

 

Client Delivery:

• Serve as a primary client contact, representing the team in client meetings, conference calls and while working on client sites (NOTE: Some travel will be required, including occasional assignments requiring 4-5 days/week onsite support for a period of time)

• Ensure clients new to restructuring understand the legal process and technical language, effectively serving as an intermediary between legal and financial advisors and in-house communicators

• Provide counsel and analysis to inform and support communications recommendations

• Lead client projects and teams, including coordinating project rollouts, ensuring team deadlines are met, and communicating across project workstreams – demonstrate flexibility and agility in adapting processes as client needs and timing evolve

• Draft and edit stakeholder communications (e.g., key messages, press releases, fact sheets, question-and-answer documents, letters and executive scripts) that make complicated legal and financial information easy to understand and demonstrate how current actions will help the company to be successful over the longer term

• Anticipate client needs and concerns and proactively work with senior management to address them

• Maintain solid relationships with clients, referral sources and colleagues across the FTI network to generate new business leads

• Consistently seek ways to improve client service

• Anticipate potentially difficult situations and be able to evaluate strategies and alternatives with senior management

• Demonstrate a willingness to take responsibility for outcomes and to assist others when needed

• Effectively manage competing demands for time

• Identify resource needs and work with senior leaders to assign individual and group responsibilities

• Foster talent by serving as a coach and mentoring junior team members

 

Business Development:

• Support the development, production and marketing of thought leadership surrounding emerging trends and issues

• Cultivate a network of internal and external referral sources

• Develop strategic proposals and presentations and be able to confidently speak to FTI Consulting’s capabilities, differentiators and approach in new business meetings

• Proactively identify opportunities to grow existing client business and effectively introduce colleagues to capture those opportunities

What Are We Looking For?

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in technology, energy, science and engineering

• Excellent organizational skills and written and verbal presentation skills

• 7+ years of relevant professional experience

• Experience in leading teams and track record of business development success

 

What Else Are We Looking For?

• Ability to advise and secure confidence of senior communications and C-level client contacts, as well as outside legal and financial advisors

• Ability to strategize and provide expert counsel in the energy and technology fields

• Ability to work under pressing deadlines across multiple projects and portray calm in the face of difficult situations to clients and other team members

• Strong work ethic, attention to detail and a service-oriented attitude

Demonstrated people management experience including mentorship and supervision of others

• Ability to excel in fast-paced, changing environments
