ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

 

The Applications Engineer has an experienced background with a record of delivering complex technical solutions and supporting operations within defined periods. Solutions will leverage and integrate with existing corporate technologies, comply with security and financial regulations and will support strategic objectives while following corporate processes and methodologies, including SCRUM, PMO and ITIL processes. This position will report directly to the Manager of Global Information Systems(GIS).

The Applications Engineer will be a key contributor for support of Corporate applications, and operational and development support across all major business functions. This role will involve day-to-day operational support for FTI’s Corporate Applications portfolio and the application development lifecycle. This includes structured application design, development, and deployment of solutions. The Engineer will work in synchronization with the operations support team to understand the daily support needs of the business in order to provide high-level support meeting defined Service Level and Operating Level Agreements. The Applications Engineer will maintain the operational run books, support processes and related events in order to support production applications, reporting, disaster recovery, and critical business processes.

 

The objective of this position is to ensure that the business operations requirements and quality standards are met or exceeded by an effective operations support process, superior communication, a high degree of problem solving and attention to detail. Primary responsibilities include corporate applications support, effectively managing daily ticket queues, performing quarterly disaster recovery tasks, custom applications support, maintaining/creating SOPs and supporting application integrations.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES

• Work as part of a corporate operations development and support team to support day-to-day operations and development needs. Performance will be measured by timely completion of the assigned tasks, quality, and quantity of work delivered

• Identify operational priorities by assessing objectives such as efficiency, cost savings, quality, time, and costs

• Improve operational quality results by evaluating and recommending process re-design, implementing changes, and contributing information and opinion to the development team

• Develop operational solutions by defining, studying estimating screening alternative solutions and determining impact on total system availability and performance

• Provide operational management information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing operating and trends

• Maintain system health by following and enforcing standards and procedures (Change Management, Incident and Problem management processes, etc.) and complying with ITG security policies and procedures

• Perform code reviews, unit testing, and system testing. Help ensure all requirements have been addressed, functionality works, errors are handled properly, and software documentation has been completed

• Participate in the implementation of all modifications and changes to environments

• Utilize the Team Foundation Server, including source control, code reviews, build release and the change control

• Work with all areas of FTI to make sure that requested solutions and support are clearly designed/ defined, structured, documented, easy to use, self-explanatory, and fulfills user and business requirements

• Provide input to budgetary expenses as it relates to daily responsibilities

• Proactively inform ITG management as necessary to resolve obstacles

• Assist the business community with requirements gathering and the design of solutions

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

 

• As developed and coordinated upon request by supervisor

• Support other IT staff with open and unresolved issues

• Provides on-call support via cell phone 24 x 7

• Take on responsibilities as a backup or alternate for other IT staff

• Cover and resolve any outstanding Service Desk related issues in an effort to help all IT members resolve tickets as quickly and efficiently as possible

• Physical labor from time to time, which may include moving equipment, furniture, etc.

• Periodic travel required, sometimes with little notice

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

• 3 years of application relevant experience supporting IT operations and applications

• 1 year of experience deploying, administering, and maintaining SQL Server in an enterprise environment

• Associates or equivalent Job experience

• Preferred development experience

• Microsoft SQL 2008 and higher

• Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)

• Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

• Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)

• IIS, JScript, JQuery, HTML5

• Net Development (C#, .NET, VB.NET, ASP.Net)

• SCRUM Development Methodology

• T-SQL, IIS, JSCRIPT, JQUERY, HTML%

• Methodical and pragmatic problem-solver

• The ability to independently trouble shoot and solve problems

• Demonstrated knowledge of service level agreements, their development, and implantation and execution

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and SQL Server 2008 and above

• Strong ability to communicate and interface with business leadership

• Experience with SharePoint 2010 sites and applications is a plus

• Positive attitude and self-motivated
