About the Regulated Industries team:

Within the Economic and Financial Consulting practice, our Regulated Industries team is a leading adviser to regulated businesses, economic regulators, law firms and investors in the US, UK, Europe and internationally. Our senior leaders in the Boston office are energy industry experts. Prior to and while at FTI, they have played a critical role in designing the competitive power markets in the U.S. and abroad; are considered thought leaders within academia with respect to electric power markets, and; have held senior positions in the C-suite at leading companies in the electric power, utility, and oil and gas industries
.
 
We provide critical insight and expert reports in the context of periodic regulatory reviews, strategic decision-making, public policy debates, M&A transactions and competition cases. Some of the types of issues our Regulated Industries team provide advice on include:
• Cost of capital and financeability
• Regulatory, accounting cost of service and reporting
• Efficiency analysis
• Design of price controls and regulatory framework;
• Regulatory and commercial strategy
• Design of incentive mechanisms
• Access pricing, charging arrangements and tariff design
• Economic impact assessments
• Financial modelling
• Regulatory and mergers and acquisitions due diligence
• Regulatory disputes
• Competition assessments and compliance
• Anti-trust approvals and appeals.

About the Opportunity:

We are interviewing for the position of Consultant. The position demands knowledge of or interest in microeconomics, a broad range of research skills, and the ability to perform quantitative analysis. Consultants work with case teams in nearly all aspects of project work including a variety of quantitative and qualitative tasks, such as; (a) data gathering and analysis, including spreadsheet modeling and regression analysis; (b) industry research; (c) review, critique and analysis of analyst reports and business documents produced in litigation; (d) production of analyses, text and graphics for expert reports, government filings, and client presentations; and (e) ensuring the quality of all work product. Experienced Consultants progress to lead analytical work, teach and mentor new Consultants, and engage in project meetings with clients and industry experts.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree. A major in Economics, Statistics, or Finance is preferred, but candidates of different backgrounds with proven analytical abilities will be considered and are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have an interest in learning about the energy industry but prior experience is not required. Knowledge of Excel and statistical programming packages such as STATA or SAS are preferred, but not required. Candidates must be highly motivated, analytical, organized, detail oriented, able to work independently or in teams, and have excellent oral and written communication skills.
