What You Will Need to Succeed

 

Education and Qualifications:

 

  • Ideally both ACA and CTA qualified (or equivalent) noting these may be obtained straight from school or after attending university

 

Experience, Skills and Competencies:

 

·       Relevant post qualified experience of tax with a focus on transactions from either an in-house or practice role including:

o   Experience with UK tax, primarily corporation tax and an understanding of employment tax, management incentives, VAT and stamp taxes, is useful but not a requirement.

o   A broad tax technical knowledge, including knowledge of current developments in legislation, case law and related accounting matters

o   An understanding of accounting matters in a transaction context, including current and deferred tax accounting

o   Experience of various transactions involving tax diligence (buy-side and sell-side) for example acquisitions and disposals, public to private transactions, refinancing, corporate carve-outs

o   Experience of tax issues specific to different industry sectors is helpful to issues-based diligence

o   Ideally, some experience of assisting with tax review of transaction models, review of sale and purchase agreements, dealing with W&I insurers and completion matters (although this is not a requirement)

·       An ability to communicate (verbal and written) in a straightforward and practical way to tax and non-tax specialists.

·       Strong analytical and organisation skills

·       Outgoing and personable and able to integrate with a team and interact with colleagues of all grades

·       Ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload to deliver work when requires

·       Ability to take ownership of projects and come to decisions independently whilst being supported by the senior team

·       Demonstrable skills at building and maintaining relationships with clients and colleagues within and outside tax teams 

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

 

Candidates submitting an application are strongly recommended to ensure their CV primarily focusses on relevant professional experience in accounting and tax during both their training period/apprenticeship and periods subsequent to qualification.
