About The Role
The Customs Audit Specialist ensures all import shipment data, system entries, and supporting documentation are complete, accurate, and compliant with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requirements. This role audits records and system data, identifies discrepancies, and ensures timely and accurate reporting to regulatory authorities and clients, supporting compliance and operational efficiency.
What You’ll Do
Audit import and export documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and bills of lading, for accuracy and completeness
Verify invoice valuation and country of origin information prior to CBP submission
Enter and maintain import shipment data in FTZ systems accurately and timely
Review pre-advise files, research and correct discrepancies, and ensure shipments are accounted for to CBP
Maintain electronic and paper files in compliance with government regulations.
Communicate shipment status and process exceptions to management and internal teams
Produce accurate weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as required by Customs regulations
Conduct periodic internal audits of import shipments to identify compliance issues, errors, or discrepancies
Reconcile system records against supporting documents and physical shipments
Analyze trends in discrepancies and provide root cause analysis to management
Support internal and external audits, preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries
Evaluate internal controls, recommend improvements, and assist in implementing procedural changes to reduce risk
Proactively identify process improvements and recommend operational efficiencies
Perform other duties as assigned to support audit and compliance functions
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for identifying errors, inconsistencies, and risk exposure
Strong organizational, detail-oriented, and analytical skills
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

What You Will Need To Succeed
Basic Qualifications
Basic understanding of import/export documentation, including invoices, packing lists, house/master bills of lading
Prior auditing experience or familiarity with compliance review processes
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook; experience with FTZ software is a plus
Ability to prepare and analyze audit reports, reconciliations, and compliance dashboards.
Available for occasional domestic travel
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; this position does not provide sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in Accounting, Logistics, Transportation, or related field
Knowledge of U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule, Customs procedures, and CBP reporting requirements
Experience with EZ-FTZ or similar import management software
Familiarity with post-entry adjustments, first-sale valuation, and other customs compliance programs
Experience in risk-based audit planning or internal control evaluation
Knowledge of logistics, Customs regulations, and FTZ operations
