About The Role

The Network Industries Strategies (NIS) group at FTI Consulting applies rigorous economic, financial, and network modeling to address complex issues across energy, rail, and infrastructure sectors. We support high-stakes decision-making in investment, regulatory, and litigation contexts through deep technical and policy expertise. Our work spans natural gas, electricity, railroads, and macroeconomic impacts, providing critical insights to clients navigating evolving market and regulatory environments.

 

We are seeking a Director with proven leadership in natural gas market modeling, utility regulation, and integrated resource planning. The ideal candidate will bring at least eight years of experience in gas market analytics and will help expand FTI’s modeling capabilities and client offerings in this domain. The ideal candidate will be able to handle complex, time-sensitive projects independently and as part of a collaborative team, be able to establish priorities and handle multiple ongoing projects, and communicate succinctly both orally and in writing.

 

 

What You’ll Do

  • Lead client engagements involving long-term natural gas planning and forecasting.

  • Oversee the design, development, and application of FTI’s PLEXOS gas market modeling capabilities.

  • Serve as a technical lead and subject matter expert on issues related to gas market dynamics, cost-effectiveness evaluation, and regulatory compliance.

  • Develop expert testimony for clients engaged in disputes or regulatory proceedings related to energy markets.

  • Guide project teams in modeling methodologies, stakeholder engagement, and development of actionable insights for clients.

  • Manage projects to ensure scope of work, budget, timeline, and deliverables are met, which includes delegating project tasks to support staff and ensuring quality control

  • Collaborate with senior NIS leaders to identify strategic growth areas and develop marketing collateral showcasing FTI’s energy capabilities.

  • Author white papers, present at industry conferences, and represent FTI in public forums to advance thought leadership.

  • Leverage existing relationships to grow new business opportunities for NIS.

  • Support and develop proposals for new business opportunities.

  • Travel on periodic out-of-town assignments and client pitches.

  • Participate in administrative meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need To Succeed  

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Operations Research, or related degrees

  • 8+ of experience in energy market modeling

  • Strong project management, leadership, and communication skills.

  • Occasional travel required to clients and FTI office(s).

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at a regulated utility, regulatory commission, or consultancy working on integrated resource planning or long-term market analysis.

  • Proficiency in R or Python; familiarity with SQL or Power BI

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office software, particularly, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Extensive experience with the PLEXOS Gas Model

  • Strong network of contacts among utility decision-makers, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
