About The Role

The Manager, Employee Relations (ER) will report into the VP of Talent, Diversity & inclusion and work closely with regional HR and internal and external legal counsel as well as coaches and employees.  This role will collaborate with relevant stakeholders to effectively manage and resolve employee relations matters on behalf of the company, including resolution of nuanced ER cases, in a fast paced and complex matrix environment. 

The successful candidate will help influence people practices which develop and maintain positive working relationships between the Firm and its people.    

What You’ll Do

The Manager, ER, will work independently to provide specialist employee relations and resolution service to managers and staff across EMEA. The role requires working closely with segment HR team members, as well as with segment business leaders & employees and the ER COE staff to implement effective and sustainable solutions, ensuring best practice approach is developed.  

  • Work directly with employees, coaches and the Global Employee Relations COE, lead ER casework and resolve disputes including disciplinary, grievances, sensitive performance management issues, involuntary separations etc.
  • Independently conduct employee relations investigations in a proactive, timely, thorough, and impartial manner, including clear and organised documentation and recommendations aligned with FTIs policy, applicable law and best practice.
  • Partner closely with legal, external counsel, and Generalist team to provide consultation on employment law and HR policy related topics and participate in negotiation with employee councils.
  • Provide technical advice and support to Business Leaders and Generalist team through the stages of ER cases ensuring consistency of application of HR policies, processes and practices minimising the exposure to employment related litigation.
  • Keep appraised of changes and developments of upcoming employment legislation changes that may have implications on policy or contractual arrangements and highlighting key changes to vice ER VP and EMEA MD, EMEA HR team, and to managers, supervisors, and employees as relevant.
  • Provide regional perspectives on global policy initiatives including local requirements to adapt policy to assigned area.
  • Track and report on issues and trends, providing management information to support strategy and HRBP intervention.
  • Support and enhance ER capability amongst coaches through knowledge building, coaching and the development of effective tools and guidelines, including best employee relations practices and strategies for managing their teams.  
  • Analyse information and data necessary to define and discern cost and policy implications of negotiations and disputes.
  • Act as a culture enabler influencing and supporting leaders on key focus areas such as diversity & inclusion, flexibility and career coaching and sponsorship.
  • Develop the EMEA People Policies and training as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain HR reporting and metrics for EMEA HR and leadership.  
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What You Will Need to Succeed

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage conflict and ambiguity, while effectively problem solving in difficult situations. 
  • Credible negotiator and influencer with a high degree of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.  
  • A good empathic listener with the ability to gather and analyse information to then determine the optimal solution. 
  • Ability to operate with all levels of FTI in a professional and positive manner with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate on complex, sensitive and contentious issues.
  • Ability to manage complex workloads and work to conflicting deadlines. 

Basic Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and qualification in a related field (e.g. coaching, mediation, or employment law)
  • Extensive experience in dealing with complex Employee Relations cases; previous EMEA specific experience.
  • Highly knowledgeable of UK employment Law and employer best practices and processes. Basic experience of other EMEA jurisdictions (outside the UK) is required. 
  • Significant demonstrable experience of advising a range of stakeholders on a broad range of ER issues balancing legal compliance practices with business need and commercial, creative solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Employment tribunal experience is advantageous  
  • Additional language skills would be beneficial
