Senior Consultant, State & Local Tax Advisory - Real Estate Solutions

About the Opportunity

We seek a senior consultant with 3-5 years of state and local tax experience for our SALT practice. 

Responsibilities will include:

• Review and occasionally prepare state non-income tax filings and other miscellaneous forms with an emphasis on sales and use tax.  Other taxes include transfer tax, personal property tax, withholding, etc.

• Knowledge of income tax-filings and tax return analysis, including filing requirements, tax adjustments, apportionment, nexus, and other tax concepts.

• Strong research skills and knowledge of multistate tax statutes, regulations, and supporting case law.

• Knowledge of states tax concerns during mergers/acquisitions when performing due diligence.

• The candidate will be required to understand real estate related documents such as leases, partnership agreements, purchase-sale agreements, structure charts, etc.

• The person must able to present findings and opinions regarding the above using effective verbal and written communication and exhibit superior multi-tasking ability.

• Preparation of detailed spreadsheets for audit defense and other state tax disputes using source documentation for presentation to client and state authorities.

Required Skills:

The candidate should have at least an undergrad degree in finance, real estate or accounting (Preferably JD, CPA or Enrolled Agent).  In order to be successful, the candidate must demonstrate:

• Strong analytical abilities

• A high attention to detail

• Strong written and oral communication skills

• Working knowledge of  Excel, Word, Powerpoint and familiarity with RIA Checkpoint and CCH tax research tools

• Must be a self-motivated hard worker with the ability to work on sometimes abstract, out-of-the-box assignments

• Must demonstrate the ability to understand the relevance of information and have the ability to synthesize and summarize information.

• Have the ability to work extended hours when needed in order to meet project specific deadlines.
