ABOUT
THE OPPORTUNITY: The Sr Database Administrator (Sr DBA)
is responsible for
the uptime, performance
and overall health of all SQL Server database servers and associated
infrastructure in a 24 x 7 environment. Core responsibilities primarily include
installation/implementation, backup/recovery, high availability, disaster
recovery, troubleshooting, performance tuning, capacity planning, migration,
ongoing maintenance, security and on-call support. The Sr DBA will work in coordination with
team DBAs as well as other Operations teams to achieve business objectives with
an eye toward budgetary considerations. The
Sr DBA must possess the ability to learn new data centric technologies and
associated platforms to meet current and future business objectives. The ideal candidate will have the ability to
troubleshoot and problem solve with a strong sense of urgency and minimal
supervision.
PRIMARY
DUTIES:

System development and testing
·
Status reporting
·
Identify architectural needs and
improvements and champion implementation when/where appropriate.
·
Act as the focal point and go-to-person
for all aspects of the project related to technology
·
Participate in or lead the discovery
phase for requirements gathering
·
Analyze requirements and produce
documentation for detailed requirements, architectural recommendations and
systems
·
Assist with the build of the physical
environment: hardware and software installation
·
Act as an intermediary between
development teams, business and project management
·
Address day-to-day and longer term
technical issues and problems
·
Maintain positive, collaborative
partnerships
·
Use comprehensive face-to-face and
written communication skills to convey abstract ideas to a diverse group of
business, technical and non-technical contributors
·
Act as a mentor and guide for team
members of all levels, both technical and non-technical
·
Capable of making solid decisions while
under pressure and in the face of conflicting alternatives
·
Be flexible and adaptive in providing
solutions to issues of varying priority and severity
·
Provide accurate estimates on resource
needs, set schedules based on documented requirements and assessments of
resources and contribute to budget and costing estimates
§ Responsible
for the maintenance and administration of all database resources in production
and QA environments to include the following:
o
Maintain archived data on appropriate
storage device
o
Admin users and maintain database security
o
Control and monitor user database access
and permissions
o
Monitor database performance
o
Monitor disk usage, file-systems,
systems processes and memory usage
o
Ensure that standards for database,
software and are meet
o
SQL Performance tuning (SQL Profiler and
3rd party monitoring/performance applications.)
§ Participate
in weekly on-call rotation.
§ Monitoring
systems, responding to alerts and proactively respond to issues to meet
§ Managing
and adhering to systems life cycle processes and best practices.
§ Deploying
proprietary applications and systems patches and upgrades.
§ Participation
in release and version management.
§ Reporting
systems performance metrics and trends.
§ Ensure
pertinent procedural documents are accurate and current.
§ Ensure
that discrepancies, failures, concerns are investigated/resolved in a timely
manner.
§ Facilitate
budgetary review, reporting and recommendations to Senior Staff.
SKILLS
REQUIRED:
§ 5+
years MS SQL Server Administration
§ Expertise
supporting Windows 2008/2012/2016
§ Experience
with failover clustering and other HA solutions
§ Experience
working in various cloud platforms, notably AWS and Azure
§ Experience
in a 24/7/365, multi-tiered production environment.
§ Excellent
systems/network troubleshooting skills and ability to diagnose complex
problems.
§ Extensive
experience supporting web-based and database centric applications.
§ Experience
with highly available and disaster recovery technologies.
§ Working
knowledge of network protocols.
§ Ability
to take ownership of an issue, problem, or project and see it through to
completion.
§ Necessary
skills include flexibility, ability to work under tight deadlines, ability to
handle multiple tasks through prioritization and time management skills,
excellent communication, exceptional collaboration and organizational skills.
§ Thorough
understanding of the SDLC and project management.
§ Experience
with enterprise systems management\monitoring tools such as MOM, SQL Diagnostic
Manager, etc.
§ Knowledge
of enterprise application technologies and architecture.
§ Ability to design and implement solutions with sensitivity toward
project timelines and budgets.
§ Leadership
and mentoring skills
PREFERRED
SKILLS:
§ Linux
administration
§ Working
knowledge of VB/WMI/Perl/Powershell scripting.
§ Working
knowledge of Microsoft development platforms
§ Familiarization
with DB2.
§ Understanding
of emerging database technologies (ElasticSearch, Cassandra, MongoDB, etc)
§ Data
Warehouse Development and SQL Server Reporting Services.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
§ 5+
years’ experience installing, configuring, monitoring, maintaining, and
supporting database technologies
§ Microsoft
certification desired.
§ AWS
certifications desired.
§ Must
have a B.S. or a B.A. college degree or commensurate work experience.
§ Possession
of sufficient credit to facilitate travel if and when required.
