ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY: The Systems Engineer is responsible for the uptime, performance and overall health of mission critical, web based, highly available applications, and infrastructure. The Systems Engineer is also responsible for planning and implementing upgrades, ensuring system integrity, and establishing security protocols.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Provide 24x7 third level technical support for network-based hardware and software related issues.
  • Monitoring systems, responding to alerts and proactively respond to issues to meet SLA requirements.
  • Managing and adhering to systems life cycle processes and best practices.
  • Deploying proprietary applications and systems patches and upgrades.
  • Ensure that pertinent procedures and documentation are accurate and current.
  • Identify process/procedure/control improvements and implement when/where appropriate.
  • Ensure that discrepancies, failures, concerns are investigated/resolved in a timely manner.
  • Participation in release and version management.
  • Reporting systems performance metrics and trends.
  • Participation in an on-call 3rd tier support rotation.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4+ years of experience installing, configuring, monitoring, maintaining, and supporting Windows server systems
  • Must have a B.S. or a B.A. college degree or commensurate work experience.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Prior exposure to a hosted application (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) environment
  • Prior exposure to Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or equivalent cloud hosting platforms
  • Experience supporting Windows Server 2008/2012, MS Active Directory, MS IIS, SharePoint 2010/2016 and MS SQL 2008/2014.
  • Experience with systems management tools, especially MS System Center suite (Orchestrator, Configuration Manager, SCOM).
  • Experience supporting VMware ESX Server or well versed in other Virtualization products
  • Experience supporting Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 and XenApp 5.0
  • Experience supporting ASP & ASP.NET applications to include troubleshooting, performance metrics & monitoring as well as familiarity with code deployments
  • Experience in a global 24/7/365, multi-tiered production environment.
  • Excellent systems/network troubleshooting skills and ability to diagnose complex problems.
  • Extensive experience supporting web-based and database centric applications.
  • Experience with highly available technologies.
  • Knowledge of enterprise application technologies and architecture.
  • Experience with network devices and protocols.
  • Ability to take ownership of an issue, problem, or project and see it through to completion.
  • Ability to design and implement solutions with sensitivity toward project timelines and budgets.
  • Necessary skills include flexibility, ability to work under tight deadlines, ability to handle multiple tasks through prioritization and time management skills, excellent communication, exceptional collaboration and organizational skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AWS certification
  • Microsoft certification highly desired.
